This special enamel pin featuring the coat of arms of the GDR for clothing and other textiles commemorates the award »Working-Class Hero«.There was no shortage of heroes in the GDR. They stood at the forefront of production and won the harvest battle every year. They were awarded many medals and even more tinny sayings. Since 1950, the honorary title »Working-Class Hero« had been awarded on October 7, the Republic's birthday, along with a bonus of 10,000 marks. This honor was bestowed on workers and collectives from factories as well as high-ranking state officials. The last award ceremony took place on October 5, 1989. A few weeks later, the gold-plated tin stars were lying in the bargain bins of street vendors.
