The historian and best-selling author Guido Knopp describes a day that went down in history: 17 June 1953. The images of the uprising against the constraints of the political system show impressively how much the workers and the population in the young GDR stood up for their rights to freedom and democracy. In the end, they failed due to the overwhelming power of Soviet tanks and threats.
Knopp puts the events as well as their prehistory and effects into context on more than 300 pages (Garman-language) with historical photographs, sources and quotations and pays tribute to the courage of the insurgents.
